A few changes this week…
No Wednesday league ultimate, come to Clergue instead
No league ultimate this Wednesday due to Canada Day. Instead, Curtis Collins is inviting everyone to come down to Clergue Park for some ultimate fun @ 7 pm. Catch some disc while DJs spin some tunes from the roof of the Art Gallery. There is a whole day of activities planned for the whole family.
If you plan to play, come a bit early to warm up. This is a chance to promote the sport. We’ll be encouraging anyone at the park to join in the game.
Special guest Monday night, adjusted format
Tomorrow night, Dan Barber will be at the field. Dan is the brother of Laura and one of the original SUPA players who now plays in London for Druid, their co-ed traveling tournament team. Great to have you back Dan for an evening of ultimate.
Last week a survey was sent out for feedback on competitive night so far and for ideas to tweak the format. The response indicates most people want a chance to learn more about playing the game, both in practice and in playing a game. There was no clear choice in the game format. So here is the plan for this Monday:
- 7:00 – 7:30 Game 1 (warm-up)
- 7:30 – 8:00 Learn Cup defense. A zone defense attempts to reduce the number of ground-gaining passing lanes, forcing the opposition to throw more passes. This improves the odds on sloppy passes being thrown. The purpose of the Cup is to prevent passing up field and force the disc back down the field or to be thrown away.
- 8:00 – 9:00 Game 2
Play will start at 7, so please come to the field around 6:45 or just join in when you arrive. If you prefer just to play a game, you can come a little before 8 pm. Let’s have a great turnout and make Mondays a 2nd great night of ultimate.
Interestingly, London has a Monday night Hat league.
